Basil's Garage is a vehicle modification and overland build shop in Vista, CA — 35 minutes north of San Diego. We outfit trucks and rigs for serious travel: suspension, electrical, armor, lighting, flatbeds, camper installs, and fully custom builds.
If it bolts to your rig and matters when you're a thousand miles from home, we probably install it.

Who's Basil
Years in trucks. Miles on dirt. A shop built from it.
Basil Lynch has spent the better part of a decade living out of trucks — months in Baja chasing surf, weeks on the Oregon coast, the Sierra, Utah's White Rim, Alaska, and Newfoundland. Every rig he's built has been designed around getting to remote water and living off-grid for as long as he wants to be out there.
He opened Basil's Garage because nobody was doing this the way he'd want it done for himself: real miles behind the advice, honest opinions about what matters, and work that holds up when you're a thousand miles from anywhere.

“We'd been researching Four Wheel Campers for a year and wanted to buy from a dealer who could also build out the truck underneath. Basil's Garage was the only shop in SoCal that could do both under one roof — and seeing their own rigs sealed it. Real miles behind the advice. We ordered a new Hawk Flatbed through them. The factory electrical package was fine on paper, but Basil walked us through the math — with the lithium bank we wanted and how long we stay out, the factory Manager 30 charger would've been undersized. They upsized us to an Alpha 100 REDARC system, which cut the zero-to-full charge time from over 16 hours to under 5. Huge real-world difference. While the camper was at the factory they built the truck: Carli Pintop 2.5 suspension with airbags, Buckstop front bumper with a Warn winch, Baja Designs lighting through Switch-Pros. Once the camper arrived they added the custom interior touches — USB-C ports where we actually needed them, storage modifications, clean Starlink integration on the roof. Every piece done right the first time. Torque paint on every bolt. Took it to Baja for three weeks right after pickup. Nothing rattled loose. The power system never blinked. Worth every mile of the drive to Vista.”
